In Eisbach (2025), Katrin Korfmann explores movement, time, and the perception of space. The female surfer is situated in the heart of the city, surfing on the Eisbach in Munich, a narrow, man-made river with a permanent wave – a rarity in nature. Here, surfing is not about catching the next wave, but about the rhythmic repetition of movement and time. An exercise in balance and surrender, in which the surfer's movement unfolds in layers across different moments simultaneously. Korfmann investigates how we relate to public spaces and the communities that emerge from them. In Eisbach, she does not capture a decisive moment but instead presents a continuous flow of time and movement. The work creates a visual echo effect, in which human, water, and city seamlessly blend into one another.
