Temporary Installation in public space

location:
Bremen / Germany
material: Forex / Velcro
size: 300 x 300 x 300 cm
year: 2005

Flatten Image is a phrase familiar from the software program Photoshop which refers to the command given for merging the various layers of a digital image, which can be manipulated separately into the final picture. As a continuation of the installation in Berlin Korfmann decided to apply the same concept to an architectonic intervention in a kiosk in Bremen, Germany. In this installation this principle is imposed onto an architectonic construction: the physical layers of a news kiosk, which consists of the walls and the proliferating information and advertisements on them, are flattened into an equal surface by covering everything with white panels. The usual information with which a kiosk is covered is hidden, repressed in fact, what results in a peculiarly estranged image. The information with which we are usually bombarded is now replaced by an empty space in which new meanings can be projected, emphasizing the actual determining space of information even more dramatically.
